In September 2012, the first two switches were installed on sleepers made of FFU synthetic wood at DB Netz AG. In the course of operational testing of FFU, the installation of switch 373 - EW 54-300-1:9 and switch 374 - EW 54-500-1:12 in the Würzburg station area took place on the 5209-Rottendorf-Würzburg line. The design speed of the switches in the main track is 60km/h, the speed for the branch is 50 km/h for switch 373 and 60 km/h for switch 374. Every day about 60,000 tons roll over each of these switches.

To date, these sleepers are regularly tested and have repeatedly been part of study work. Until today, no relevant maintenance work has been necessary on the sleepers or the tracks.
